SPJ New England is looking for passionate student and early-career journalists to build clips by covering industry news and chapter events as volunteer correspondents for spjne.org.
In addition to serving as a hub for SPJ New England members to find upcoming events, awards and other opportunities to engage with the chapter, we aim to publish original reporting while creating opportunities for students and recent graduates. Our coverage will focus on developments in the media industry, press freedom and government transparency, including First Amendment and sunshine law issues. Correspondents are also encouraged to attend and cover SPJ events.
Print, digital and broadcast journalists of all specialties — including photographers, videographers and editors — are invited to contribute. No specific experience is required beyond an understanding of the SPJ Code of Ethics and a commitment to SPJ’s mission of improving and protecting journalism, promoting the free flow of information and defending press freedom.
Because the site is entirely volunteer-run, correspondents are free to contribute at their own pace, to the extent personal, academic and professional obligations permit.
Professional journalists are also encouraged to get involved, either by contributing their own work or by mentoring student correspondents.
