DESCRIPTION:Join SPJ New England and The Mass Media for the first installment of their four-part speaker series at UMass Boston\, featuring retired Boston Globe sportswriter Bob Ryan and moderated by SPJ National President Chris Vaccaro. Ryan retired from the Globe as a sports columnist in 2012\, having covered 20 NBA finals\, 20 Final Fours\, nine World Series\, five Super Bowls and seven Olympic Games. Over the course of his 44-year career\, Ryan was a four-time winner of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association’s National Sportswriter of the Year Award. In 2015\, he received a PEN/ESPN Lifetime Achievement Award for Literary Sports Writing. He is the author of “Scribe: My Life in Sports.” \nThe event is open to UMass Boston students and members of the public.
