JAILBREAK: building social media alternatives for the news industry,  [FREE CONFERENCE], 5/19, 1 p.m.

ALL SPJNE MEMBERS are cordially invited to attend the Jailbreak conference that DigBoston and the Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism are hosting on May 19 from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. at Cambridge Community Television, 438 Mass Ave in fabulous Central Square.

Jailbreak is aimed at sparking a discussion between area journalists and technologists about the problems with major corporate social media like Facebook with an eye toward collaborating to build more democratic social media alternatives that better serve the needs of the news industry and our audiences.

For more background about the issues that inspired the conference, check out SPJ member Jason Pramas’ recent editorial about DigBoston moving its social media strategy away from Facebook: https://digboston.com/editorial-strategic-retreat/.

Space is limited. There are only 25 spots left; so register here: http://jasonpramas.work/event/jailbreak-registration/.

Jason Pramas can be reached at execeditor@digboston.com if you have any questions.
